Mr. Jack Crawford is a Sacramento native whose 13-year career in local “company building”
has evolved from CPA to entrepreneur to venture capitalist. As a CPA with PriceWaterhouseCoopers,
Mr. Crawford saw a wide range of businesses and was inspired to start his own –
including one of the first Internet Service Providers in Sacramento. Through the
1990’s, Jack secured his reputation as a serial entrepreneur in founding three more
software companies. Mr. Crawford launched Velocity Venture Capital in 2005 to provide
venture capital to the Greater Sacramento area. He currently serves as a Board member
with emTRAiN, Freepath, JobSight Solutions, Marquiss Wind Power, Razor Audio, Riavo
Systems, and Start-up TV Network. Jack is an alumnus of Harvard Business School's
"Private Equity & Venture Capital" executive program and a graduate of the Venture
Capital Institute. Jack earned a B.S. degree in Accounting from Arizona State University
and is a Certified Public Accountant in California.
Dr. Jacob Jorgensen is a physician and seasoned entrepreneur, with over 25 years of corporate
operating experience creating and managing high-tech start-ups in the biomedical,
biophysics, networking, and wireless communications industries. As CEO, CTO or VP
Engineering, he has created and managed several VC-backed companies, including a
successful IPO. As a technologist and engineer, he has been awarded 11 patents,
with 14 more pending, in the areas of wireless quality of service system design,
enterprise software design, computer-telephony integration, client-server architecture,
and real-time operating system design. After his medical training, Dr. Jorgensen
went on to establish a series of high-tech startups, focusing primarily on medical
devices, and data, voice wireless communications system technologies. As CTO, he
participated in a successful IPO (NASDAQ: EISI), and then established several other
start-ups in the area of broadband wireless communications technology. Dr. Jorgensen
earned a B.S. in theoretical physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
has done graduate-level work at M.I.T in theoretical physics, has an M.D. from Columbia
University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and is a licensed physician.
Mr. Gary Simon, President & CEO, Acumentrics Corporation
Mr. Simon has a broad-ranging 33-year career that includes Fortune 500 companies,
small start-up businesses, and consulting to major energy companies. Prior to Acumentrics,
Mr. Simon was the Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development
at Northeast Utilities, where he had responsibility for corporate R&D as well as
for business planning and strategic M&A transactions. In that position, Mr. Simon
had a major role in over $2.5 billion of transactions, was the head of corporate
venture investing, and was a member of the senior management committee. He was responsible
for analysis of markets, competitors, new business ventures, acquisition targets
and business unit performance. Previously, Mr. Simon was Senior Director and head
of the Global Power Practice for Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) for
nine years, where he provided advice on the future directions of the industry and
the sources of strategic advantage, including the emergence of new technologies.
Earlier, Mr. Simon was Vice President of sales and marketing for El Paso Natural
Gas Company. Mr. Simon also served four years as the head of forecasting and planning
for the California Energy Commission and five years as senior consultant to the
energy committees of the California State Assembly. Mr. Simon has a master’s degree
from the University of California, Davis, and a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University.
Mr. Patrick C. Lee, (Board Observer) Partner, Pinnacle Ventures
Before joining Pinnacle Ventures, Mr. Lee was at JPMorgan Partners where he started
and led the software practice. Patrick was a lead investor in a number of early-stage
technology companies including VMWare (sold to EMC; NYSE: VMW), PentaSafe (sold
to NetIQ), Content Technologies (sold to Baltimore Technology) and Tidal Software.
Prior to JPMorgan Partners, Patrick helped start Access Technology Partners, a venture
fund closely affiliated with Hambrecht & Quist, where he managed the software sector
and made several investments, including Crossworlds (CWLD, Sold to IBM), Cygnus
(Sold to Red Hat/RHAT), Liberate (LBRT), Motive (MOTV), Niku (NIKU) and SupportSoft
(SPRT). Before Access Technology Partners, Patrick oversaw the software M&A Group
for Hambrecht & Quist as a Vice President. Earlier n his career he worked in the
Restructuring Group at Merrill Lynch in both New York and London. Mr. Lee received
an undergraduate degree with Honors from Queen’s University, Canada and an MBA from
Harvard Business School.
